Invitation
We invite you to attend the GeoPIXE at X-ray Fluorescence Microscopy beamline workshop 9-10 May at the Australian Synchrotron.
The workshop will be a two-day hands-on and interactive series of tutorials and demonstrations of GeoPIXE with the emphasis on processing and analysing data collected with the Maia detector at the XFM beamline.
To ensure attendees get the most out of the workshop, participant numbers will be limited. We are planning to hold another workshop this September, so do not worry if you don't make it to the May workshop.
We are planning to hold some parallel beginner and advanced topics. Beginner sessions will cover the basics of using GeoPIXE, such as extracting spectra and spectrum fitting of X-ray fluorescence data. Advanced topics will include a new feature of GeoPIXE, multiphase dynamic analysis, i.e., fitting for multiple sample matrices present in a specimen.
New users (<2 years since their first XFM experiment) will be given preference to the beginner workshop sessions. Advanced users should be confident with normal processing in GeoPIXE, such as spectrum fitting, generating and exploring images, and extracting and fitting region spectra.
While the beamline staff can start you off with your data processing, detailed research questions often require fluency with analysis packages. GeoPIXE is tailored to fluorescence microscopy, and provides a powerful suite of analytical features, some of which are not available anywhere else (elemental correlation and co-localisation are relatively unique to fluorescence microscopy). Our years of experience with GeoPIXE at the XFM beamline has shown that highest productivity comes from research groups with at least one team member fluent with GeoPIXE. As you know your specimens better than anyone else, it pays for you to be interrogating the data post-experiment (checking calibrations, standards, re-fitting, etc.)
