Information for Presenters

Information for Oral Presenters

  • The online program displays the details of your presentation time, session chair, and session venue.  Alternatively, you can also see these details by using the Abstract index or Presenter index links.
  • Our preference is for presenters to upload their presentations in advance of the meeting, by 5pm on Monday 23 November.  This will allow us to preload slides onto the presentation PCs, which will minimise the changeover time between speakers.  Please follow the directions below to upload your presentation.
  • Alternatively you may bring your presentation on a USB stick or your own laptop.  Please note that your laptop will need to have VGA and/or HDMI output capabilities.
  • Please note that we only have available Powerpoint or Adobe Reader for PCs.  If you wish to use an Apple Keynote presentation, you will need to supply your own Mac laptop.
  • If you have embedded movies or animations, we STRONGLY recommend you pre-upload your slides to allow us to test them on our hardware in advance. 
  • Please make contact with your session chair in the break before your session to check your presentation has been uploaded and/or your hardware works correctly.
  • The projector in the Oliphant Auditorium can display presentations with aspect ratios of 16:9 or 4:3. The Conference Rooms and NCSS Seminar Room projections can display 4:3 aspect ratio.


Information for Poster Presenters

Poster sessions will be held over the lunch breaks on Thursday 26 November and Friday 27 November. Poster Presenters should note the following information in preparing their posters:

  • Poster boards are 1.8m tall x 1.2m wide.
  • You can find your poster board number by searching the online abstract index or from the poster desk at the meeting.
  • Velcro dots for fixing your poster to boards will be available.
  • Posters should be on display for as much of the meeting as possible. Poster boards will be accessible from 8.30am on Wednesday 25 November.
  • Presenters of odd numbered posters should be at their posters from 1.30pm to 2.15pm on Thursday 26 November
  • Presenters of even numbered posters should be at their posters from 1.30pm to 2.15pm on Friday 27 November
  • It is particularly important that student presenters be available during their designated session as the Student Poster Prize judges will expect to discuss your poster with you  
  • Posters must be removed by the conclusion of the lunch break on Friday 27 November
  • The winner(s) of the Student Poster prize will be announced during the final session of the meeting on Friday 27 November.


Information for Student Poster Slam Presenters

Modelled somewhat on the 3-minute thesis competition, the Student Poster Slam challenges students to communicate the essence of the science contained in their poster to all delegates in only 60 seconds!

Participants should note the following information:

  • The Student Poster Slam will commence at 4:45pm on Wednesday 25 November, in the Oliphant Auditorium
  • You will have one minute and one slide ONLY to present your work
  • Your slide must be static (i.e. no animations or movies).  It should include your name and poster title (you can abbreviate the title if needed).  You can also include your poster board number if you wish (you can find these in the online abstract index)
  • Some useful tips for student participants are available here.
  • Note that your slide will be combined with those of the other Poster Slam presenters and turned into a single pdf presentation file.  The session chair will advance to the next slide after exactly one minute, so you must be ready at the lectern to start speaking as soon as your slide is shown.
  • Please upload your slide by Friday 13 November by following the instructions below.
  • All participants must attend a short briefing session at 3.30pm on Wednesday 25 November, in the Oliphant Auditorium.
  • The winner(s) of the Student Poster Slam will be announced during the final session of the meeting on Friday 27 November.


Uploading Material

To upload your presentation please follow these steps:

  1. Login to your account at the conference website
  2. Locate your presentation under the My Contributions menu link, and click on View
  3. Click on the pencil icon next to Files, and then click on Add Material
  4. On the Basic tab, choose a file to upload, and be sure to select Restricted under the material type to ensure your slide is NOT visible to the public
  5. On the Protection tab, you may wish to make the link invisible (optional). There is no need to specify a user or group.
  6. Click Create Resource, and then Close
  7. You can edit or delete your uploaded files at any time by repeating the above steps.
